CAPPELLINI TAKES PART TO THE NEW STONE AGE DESIGN
Competence, technology and art exhibited at the SAIE Spring fair in Bologna

Cappellini is a company being involved since the 70ies in processing stone, marble and granite. It developed in a more than thirty years long experience a technological competence, getting more and more sophisticated and being always ready to face any unexpected change of the market’s requirements. Cappellini designs and realizes everywhere in Europe any kind of stone, marble or granite work for pavements, ventilated walls, door frames, balconies, stairs, baths, kitchens, furnishing elements. Just due to its strong “mission” to conjugate technology and design Cappellini accepted the invitation to take part to the New Stone Age Design, the artistic and innovation section of the “SAIE Spring” fair – treating doors and windows, doors and windows technologies and internal finishing - that went off at the BolognaFiere on March 12th - 15th – and that this time had been dedicated to the marble and stone sector. In a sector where conjugating technical competence with an idea is a difficult undertaking, Cappellini had been able to give to architect Denis Santachiara’s expectations a concrete and competent answer, who with the Santachiara Studio fulfilled a particularly ambitious project: the New Stone Age Design – promoted by Confindustria Assomarmomacchine, in collaboration with BolognaFiere – and Cappellini had been chosen among the leading companies in the marble sector – for this stone dedicated exhibition, seen and interpreted for any new living and hosting space. It was aimed to give through this works gallery and by means of concrete examples answers to any need of turning marble alive, getting it functional and, even more difficult, tempting. To re-actualize stone in the perspective of a modern vision, with concrete examples and not only drawings, with realizations that put on evidence an unmistakeable stile: this is the aim of the New Age Stone Design, where Cappellini had to test itself putting on the battle-field all its competences. “The effort of Bologna Fiere and Assomarmomacchine – explains Giacomo Cappellini – to give to this fair happening a new outline, introducing not only an exhibition event that would explain the researching work in the marble sector, but turning themselves promoters of the same research, is absolutely commendable”- “The choice of those companies being up to our ambitious project – affirms architect Denis Santachiara – had not been easy. In a vast number of possible projects, Cappellini fulfilled totally any expectation and also the purpose that we set in this stone, marble and internal finishing topic. Cappellini has got technology, ideas and feasibility capacities”. In this perspective our aim had been fully achieved by: “Lavabo” (“Basin”) (this is its provocatively chosen name) presented exclusively in Bologna. Displaying lightness – the thickness is minimum – and dynamicity – as the pattern recalls the unification of two wings – satisfying so the want of a provocative design and interpreting a courageous choice, both from a styling point of view and due to its realization that had been accomplished with the most advanced three-dimensional software technologies. “The shaping of surfaces in a three-dimensional space – explains Giacomo Cappellini – had been achieved thanks to the performance of CNC machines. This opens new prospects for the use of stone, marble and granite in fields where more ductile materials do still dominate incontestably”.
